![]() ![]() But from my experience nothing beats the old brass base made in USA bulbs - most of them are pushing 50+ years old and still outlast the new stuff from my experience with them. Even the old "Made in Taiwan" bulbs from the 1970's seem better. My experience has been very bad with those. However - I don't know if anything will help the newer "Made in China" bulbs. According to my dad having the element in the bulb "carbon up some" made bulbs last longer. In any event - what can it hurt? After replacing bulbs in your machine let them heat up then cool before using machine. I don't know if it really helped but that is a "trick" my dad taught me over 50 years ago. Causes and Solutions for Light Bulbs that Keep Burning Out Bad Light Bulbs The Bulb is Screwed in too Tight Wrong Kind of Light Bulbs Too Much Vibration. ![]() ![]() Basically after replacing a bulb we would leave lamp on undisturbed for a few minutes to get hot - then let it cool before customer picked up their car. When I was in the auto repair business we always did a "burn in" on new bulbs when we replaced bulbs which seemed to help them last longer. I am not saying you are wrong, but it is not what I experienced. Quoted from dayton:Rebuilding my machine the past year and experiencing terrible problems with bulbs burning out (especially near solenoids) I found a box of #44 bulbs I bought when I first acquired the machine (so at least 30+ years old) and tried them. But, you can't just replace with LED because of the SCR method used to turn them on and off - so I am debating adding the resistor to the lamp socket to keep the lights from flashing and switching to LEDs. I also have problem with the bonus lights (1-5) as they are near to the slingshots (4 bonus light is currently out on my machine). I like the look of the #44/47 bulbs (which the LEDs can't match) so I only replaced the lights which burned out often. Just be careful which LEDs you choose (White,Warm White, etc.) because they can be much brighter and whiter than the incandescent bulbs and may not look right. I replaced the slingshot lights with standard #44/47 LED lights - and again, not a problem since. I finally gave up and switched to LED (the ones I got for the pop bumpers is a standard base with 6 LEDs sticking out the top in a circular pattern - not a problem since AND they are brighter making the bumpers look better AND not expensive at all (again from Comet ). I didn't know, but didn't believe, that when it was new they could have blown out like this (what a nightmare for an arcade if so). I tried everything - I even put my o-scope on the GI lights output AC and recorded the line - no large spikes of any kind. solenoids) blew out in short time - especially the slingshot lights. But the problem was greater than just the pop bumpers, ANY lights near anything that banged (i.e. Same problem exactly - replace bulbs in pop bumpers and next game or two and at least one blows out. In any of these cases, replace the defective parts before resetting the breaker or replacing a fuse.īefore assuming that a dark bulb is burned out, check to make sure that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped due to a short circuit.Since you gave me help with my problem I thought (although fairly late response) I would tell you my story. The fixture or appliance cord may have a wiring problem, a cord plug could be defective, or the light socket may be defective. The light bulb (and everything else) suddenly goes dark.Ī short circuit can be caused by a number of circumstances. This sudden increase in current flow causes the circuit breaker to trip (or the fuse to blow) and stop the flow of current. This situation causes resistance to lessen, which vastly increases the flow of current through the circuit. The official definition of a short circuit is a condition in which the electrical current flows outside the established wiring pathway. A short circuit in the wiring of the circuit can cause the light fixture-as well as all other devices on the circuit-to suddenly go dark. This is another instance where a light bulb that suddenly goes dark is not burned out at all. The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board. ![]()
